Abidjan, October 26, 2019 – “We must ensure that in our schools in Africa, there is a fair mix between academic success and sports results,” said Djibril Diallo, President and CEO of the African Renaissance and Diaspora Network. He was addressing more than 200 participants of the 2nd edition of Sport and Education Awards, under the slogan “Football agreed, school first”, an Ivorian concept initiated by the Management Agency LANFIARA MANAGEMENT SPORT (LMS) recognized by the Ivorian Federation of Football and which aims to promote the school at the heart of sports training and football training centers or animation.
At the invitation of AbdoulayeDiabaté, Director General LMS, and alongside illustrious Didier Drogba, former captain of the Ivorian national team and Habib Beye, former captain of the Senegalese national team, Djibril Diallo took part in the debates on “Social Perspectives Related to the Development of Sport in African Education Systems” as well as on “The sectoral strategy of women’s sport, education and social development: towards real public policies for the feminization of sport in Africa”.
For Diallo, ARDN also aligns with their commitment to convince sports stakeholders about the importance for our children of combining the sports dream with the obligation to have a school education. “We have a common view on the increase in the school dropout rate in the sports field and it affects young girls far more than boys. At the same time, recent sporting events encourage women’s physical education in our schools. “
The 2nd edition of the Sport and Education Awards awarded the highest marks in school education as an encouragement to continue sports training.
As part of its Pathway to Solutions program: Popularizing the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, ARDN has set up a project named Equal Light, which will launch the campaign “Give a Red Card to All Forms of Discrimination and Violence Against Womenand Girls” on March 6, 2020, at the United Nations, during the celebration of the International Women’s Day. This concept includes the fields of sports and education.
